ACV-CSCIASIA.ORG, Jakarta – The Central Executive Board of the Mining and Energy Federation affiliated with the Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (DPP FPE KSBSI) held a National Workshop entitled Accelerating a Just Energy Transition for Mine Workers in Jakarta on Friday – Saturday (27-28/09/2024).
The agenda of the workshop is to design a strategy and roadmap for Climate Change and Just Transition in the mining sector, where Indonesia’s commitment is to reduce the use of fossil fuels towards net zero emissions (NZE) by 2060.
In her remarks and opening the workshop, Elly Rosita Silaban, President of KSBSI, emphasized that workers who are potentially affected by this energy transition should prepare and strategize in facing future challenges.
“Workers must be ready to face future challenges related to this energy transition. I also ask the government to involve labor unions in making policies on the energy transition, especially in sectors that will be affected.” said Elly Rosita Silaban
The national workshop on equitable energy transition also invited speakers from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, and Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency of the Republic of Indonesia. The participants in this national workshop were representatives of labor union administrators at the branch and company levels of FPE and representatives of the KSBSI affiliated federation.
Later, with the presentation from each speaker, it will be collaborated with the thoughts of workers and points from the results of 8 workshops and FGDs that have been conducted by the DPP FPE KSBSI in the regions. And hopefully, in the future FPE will have a position paper related to the issue of climate change and equitable transition. (RED/Handi)
