ACV-CVCIASIA.OR, JAKARTA – Luc Triangle was officially confirmed as Secretary General of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) at the 6th Extraordinary World Congress which was held virtually, 12 October 2023, chaired by ITUC President Akiko Gono.
As the only candidate nominated for the office, he was elected by acclamation. Previously, Luc Triangle served as Acting Secretary General of ITUC since May 2023.
“I am honored and happy to receive the trust of ITUC’s global membership and look forward to leading this organization in the years to come,” said Luc to media crew, Thursday (12/03/2023) local time.
“In history, it has been very important to have a strong, united, representative and global organization for workers in the world,” he explained.
Furthermore, Luc Triangle said there are armed conflicts in every region, democracy and human rights are under threat, economic inequality means hundreds of millions of people do not have enough money to survive and interrelated challenges, including climate change, demand joint action with the people at the heart of the conflict.
“The solution, by realizing a New Social Contract to achieve a just, equitable and sustainable world, will continue to be ITUC’s core mission,” said Luc Triangle.
At the Extraordinary Congress, changes to the ITUC Constitution to strengthen election procedures were also adopted. And the next ITUC General Council Meeting will take place in Brussels, 12-14 December 2023. (RED/Handi)
