ACV-CSCIASIA.ORG, JAKARTA – The 3 largest trade union confederation in Indonesia held a solidarity action for the people of Myanmar. The demonstration was held in front of the Myanmar Embassy in Jakarta on Thursday (01/02/2024).
The largest confederations in Indonesia are, the All Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSBSI), the All Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSPSI Andi Ghani), the Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSPI), all three of which are affiliated to the International trade union or known as the International Trade Union Confederation ( ITUC) which is headquartered in Belgium.
Elly Rosita Silaban, President of KSBSI, in her speech said that the action in front of the Myanmar Embassy was an action to commemorate 3 years since the legitimate government of Myanmar was overthrown by the Military Junta.
“And what’s worse is that currently the labor union there has been disbanded, they have fled to the forest and are hiding and fleeing abroad.” said Elly Rosita Silaban.
The demonstration in front of the Myanmar Embassy was a form of solidarity carried out by the 3 ITUC affiliated confederations.
“This is our contribution to supporting the people of Myanmar. We ask the Indonesian government to speak out so that the Military Junta respect the labor union, asks to release the labor activists who are being held prisoner, Maung Maung is one of trade union leader CTUM.
The autorithy should apologizes to the people of Myanmar for the victims who died.” she explained.
Elly also encouraged the Indonesian government’s efforts to play a role in peace and freedom of association for the Myanmar people.
“Indonesia can be a peacemaker at the international level, and hopes that the Indonesian government will voice that freedom of association can be appreciated and respected in Myanmar.” she said.

Meanwhile, Maria Emeninta as Regional Coordinator of ACV-CSCI Asia, whose office is in Jakarta said that this solidarity action was carried out simultaneously in several ITUC Asia Pacific affiliate countries in Asia, such as the Philippines and other countries.
“Labor activists also took to the streets to voice full support for Myanmar and ask the governments of ASEAN countries to reject cooperation with the illegitimate government currently in power in Myanmar,” said Maria Emeninta.
Maria explained that ASEAN countries must refuse cooperation with Myanmar, for example by stopping oil supplies to the country and refusing to continue trade cooperation or ban bank loan cause it use yo but weapon to kill peoples, just like recently PRC China has done to support investment in Myanmar.
The support has been done by Singapore as an example. Therefore, it is hoped that the Indonesian government will do the same thing so that the military junta will change their bad atittudes
