ACV-CSCIASIA.ORG, JAKARTA – A number of leaders of trade unions throughout Asia Pacific affiliated with the International Trade Union Confederation Asia Pacific (ITUC-AP) held a meeting in Jakarta on April 17-18 2024.
The meeting is entitled ITUC-AP Regional Pre-International Labor Conference (ILC) Meeting, which is a series of meetings to discuss problems surrounding labor issues which will later be brought up at the 112th ILC session in July in Geneva, Switzerland.
KSBSI President, Elly Rosita Silaban said that this series of international activities was an annual agenda in preparing priority input that would be brought to ILC 2024.
“For 4 days of discussion, with ITUC Affiliates in Asia Pacific, regarding freedom of negotiation, labor cases in participating countries, regarding Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) and the Global Accelerator.” said Elly Rosita Silaban.
The meeting also included speakers on trade union strategy and coordinated action at the 112th ILC session, including on protection against biological hazards presented by Zuzanna Muscat, ITUC. The economics of decent work and care by Monica Tepper, ITUC. General Survey and Global Rights Index 2024 by Loredana Carta online.
The session on the 2024 Outline of the Report of the Expert Committee on the Implementation of Conventions and Recommendations (CEACR) was presented by Monina Wong, ITUC and Patuan Samosir, ITUC-AP accompanied by discussions with the participants.
Then, the introduction and update of the Human Rights Due Diligence Seminar (HRDD) in July 2023 was presented by Maria Emeninta, ACV/CSC Asia Regional Coordinator. Then how to use HRDD for trade unions in Asia, some good initiatives and ideas as well as group discussions to strengthen trade union work in HRDD presented by Monina Wong, ITUC.
The agenda was attended by Shoya Yoshida as Secretary General of ITUC-AP, Felix Antony President of ITUC-AP, Paapa Danquah (ITUC legal officer) and Monina Wong (ITUC human and trade union rights officer) ITUC Belgium, Patuan Samosir Senior Director of ITUC-AP.
As well as representatives from trade unions from Japan, Australia, India, Mongolia, Nepal, Maldives, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Korea, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bangladesh.
