KSBSI National Coordination Meeting Opened by Sufmi Dasco, Workers’ Welfare Council to be Implemented Soon

The Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSBSI) held its 2025 National Coordination Meeting (RAKORNAS) with the theme “Strengthening the Labor Movement to Welcome the New Job Era” in Central Jakarta, August 12-14, 2025.

KSBSI President Elly Rosita Silaban expressed her appreciation for the Prabowo administration’s performance, which she deemed sufficiently attentive to the plight and welfare of workers.

“The President’s presence at the recent commemoration of International Workers’ Day or May Day 2025 at Monas, according to Elly, demonstrates Prabowo’s deep concern for workers.

Currently, the government has planned several important points, such as the formation of a Layoff Task Force, the elimination of outsourcing, and the establishment of a National Workers’ Welfare Council.

“We heard that the National Workers’ Welfare Council has already signed a decree, signed, and will be implemented soon, or that there will be points that will be included in the clauses or whatever the workers are fighting for,” said Elly.

However, according to Elly, it is the workers who must express their true aspirations for worker welfare, such as wages and other benefits.

“The theme of the KSBSI National Coordination Meeting is strengthening the labor movement to welcome the era of new jobs. With jobs that are relevant today, where the new era of work is characterized by digitalization, artificial intelligence, informalization, automation, energy transition, and global business changes (which) bring two sides: opportunities and threats,” she explained.

Elly explained that these two sides—opportunities and threats—on the one hand bring increased productivity, environmentally friendly jobs, and job flexibility. “But on the other hand, there are significant risks in the form of job losses, the spread of unprotected contract or freelance workers, trade conflicts, and taxation,” she concluded.

National Labor Welfare Council at the Ministerial Level

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Manpower (Wamenaker) Immanuel Ebenezer Gerungan stated that the state’s task is not only to address labor issues but also to be able to act as a good bridge between workers, employers, and the government.

“And today, that communication bridge has been established with the establishment of the National Labor Welfare Council,” stated the Deputy Minister of Manpower.

The Welfare Council is an institution established by the Indonesian government. President Prabowo Subianto announced the plan for its establishment during the 2025 International Labor Day commemoration at the National Monument (Monas).

This institution aims to address the plight of workers and improve their welfare. Therefore, its establishment is expected to serve as a forum for the government, employers, and labor unions to jointly formulate policies that positively impact labor welfare.

Echoing the Deputy Minister of Manpower, Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, who attended the 2025 KSBSI National Coordination Meeting, explained that the Prabowo administration is concerned with labor issues. This is evidenced by the signing of the Welfare Council.

“I want to emphasize that the National Labor Welfare Council consists of prominent labor leaders in Indonesia,” said Dasco. Furthermore, labor leaders in the DKBN hold ministerial-level positions.

“That’s why it’s written there, at the ministerial level,” he emphasized. “This means that Mr. Prabowo greatly values his fellow workers. So, under Mr. Prabowo’s leadership, there’s nothing that can’t be discussed between workers, the government, and employers,” Dasco concluded.
