JAKARTA – All Indonesian Trade Unions Confederation (KSBSI) welcomes and appreciates the adoption of ILO Convention No. 193 on Decent Work in the Platform Economy by the International Labour Conference.
This is an important milestone for millions of digital platform workers worldwide, including online transportation drivers, couriers, care workers, and various other digital workers.
While platform workers have made significant contributions to the economy, many still face job insecurity, low social protection, and limited opportunities to advocate for their rights.
“The adoption of this Convention confirms that technological advances should not be an excuse to ignore workers’ rights,” said Elly Rosita Silaban Presiden of KSBSI in her Statement, Sunday, (14/06/2026).
KSBSI views ILO Convention No. 193 as a step forward in guaranteeing freedom of association, the right to collective bargaining, decent wages, social security protection, occupational safety and health, and protection from unfair and discriminatory algorithmic practices.
“We also express our appreciation and gratitude to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, for the issuance of Presidential Regulation No. 27 of 2026 concerning the Protection of Online Transportation Workers,” said Elly.
This policy demonstrates the state’s commitment to platform workers and is an important step towards realizing decent work in the digital economy era.
The Indonesian Workers’ Social Security Association (KSBSI) affirms that every worker, regardless of their status or employment relationship, has the right to protection, justice, and respect for their human dignity.
Therefore, the KSBSI urges the Indonesian Government to immediately ratify ILO Convention No. 193 and ensure that all of its principles are implemented in national legislation.
“KSBSI will continue to stand with platform workers to fight for their rights, strengthen their organizations, and ensure that no worker is left behind in the development of the digital economy,” Elly emphasized.
Decent work is a right for all workers. Technology should improve human well-being, not reduce protection for those who work. (RED/Handi)
