KSBSI Condemns Coup and Urges Respect for Democracy and Human Rights in Myanmar

KSBSI RELEASE

Since 1 February 2021, the military coup take forcefully power in Myanmar. Today more then 50 people has been killed and thousands injury on their actions against military dictatorship era under General Min Aung Hlaing.

KSBSI join with many country in the world highly to express that we have followed in dismay the appalling seizure of power by the military in Myanmar and our organisation has pledged to do all within its power to stop the coup succeeding, ensure the release of all those detained and bring an end to the violence and harassment of the people.

In line with the positions and demands of our global confederation the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) to international institutions, KSBSI has been called on governments worldwide to stand together in support of the people in Myanmar.

Today, March 10th, 2021 more then 100 representatives of KSBSI national leaders and members Jakarta surrounding convey our aspiration to the Myanmar Embassy at Jakarta office as well as to the Indonesian government c/q Ministry Foreign Affairs as follow:

  • KSBSI publicly condemns the coup in Myanmar and asks the Myanmar Embassy in Jakarta to make humanitarian efforts to reject all military attempts to rule by force, reject all acts of human rights violations, including people arrests.
  • The Myanmar Embassy must support adherence to freedom of association, protection of protesters, respect for the right to peaceful assembly and protest and the right to opinion, expression, and speech, including reliance on information technology platforms.
  • Promote and facilitate the distribution of humanitarian assistance from both UN agencies and international humanitarian organizations and to support the work of independent Civil Society Organizations in Myanmar.
  • Expose and hold to account all lobby firms employed by the Myanmar military that proceed through the Myanmar Embassy in Jakarta.
  • Support and assist all refugees from Myanmar’s military persecution.
  • Protect all diplomatic staff and workers in Indonesia and Myanmar.
  • In this regard, KSBSI also calls on the Indonesian government to take the necessary steps to take part in ending human rights violations in Myanmar, including closing the Myanmar Embassy in Jakarta -f it supports and stands with the current military rulers. Indonesia must prove to the world as well that we are at the frontline of defending the suffering of the people around the world especially Myanmar at this time and also providing support and protection to the workers protesting the coup. For this reason, Indonesia through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must continue efforts to facilitate peace in Myanmar as it started in Thailand last week.

We stand in solidarity with Myanmar’s workers and with the people of Myanmar and pay tribute to those brave workers taking action to reject the military takeover.

No more military coup! End the dark dictatorship!
