ACV-CSCIASIA.ORG, BANGKOK – 5th Regional Conference of the ITUC – Asia Pacific ended this afternoon local time. Congress has elected Felix Anthony as President (Fiji) and Shoya Yoshida, as Secretary General (Japan).
From the progress of the congress, Maria Emeninta, ACV-CSCIAsia coordinator, said that today the congress had ended with new management.
“The old Secretary General of ITUC AP was re-elected, and for the President of ITUC AP, the president of KSBSI should have been a strong candidate but considering maintaining good relations, in the end he resigned.” said Maria after attending the 5th ITUC AP congress in Bangkok, Wednesday (22/11/2023).
Maria explained that because of the resignation of the President of KSBSI as a strong candidate for President of ITUC AP, several new candidates emerged, from India who received strong support from the South African delegation. However, Felik Anthoni finally won as President of ITUC AP with 20 votes.
Congress also produced many programs on jobs, labor rights, organizing. and there are about 17 resolutions on urgent matters in several countries.
“Like the earthquake victims in Nepal, not taking sides with workers in Sri Lanka, then there is the murder of labor activists in the Philippines, about the call to liberate Palestine.” explained Maria.
Furthermore, Maria congratulated KSBSI who has many roles now and in the future at ITUC AP.
“The Congress ended this afternoon, and Elly Rosita was elected as the General Council as well as the Executive Bureau and the Finance and Fundraising Committee as newly established institutions at this Congress for the first time.” said Maria.
Meanwhile, Elly Rosita Silaban, President of KSBSI, when met at the same place, expressed her deepest gratitude for the trust given. And it is a challenge in itself for KSBSI because it has many future roles in ITUC-AP.
“For KSBSI, I myself am a Regional Council Member, as an Executive Bureau, and sit on the Financial and Solidarity Fund Committee, 2023-2027.” said Elly after the ITUC AP congress agenda in Bangkok, Wednesday (22/11/2023).
Sitting on the ITUC AP women’s committee from KSBSI is Sri Rejeki, treasurer of FSB KIKES and Secretary of K2N KSBSI. For the youth committee there is Nanda Maureen from FSB KAMIPARHO and Chair of the KSBSI Youth Committee. (RED/Handi)
