Congratulations to domestic workers and trade unions in Indonesia on this historic victory!

The passing of the Domestic Workers Protection Act marks a major milestone in Indonesia’s labour movement—hard-won through years of collective struggle by domestic workers, trade unions, and civil society.

This law is more than legislation. It is a structural correction to long-standing injustice, finally recognising domestic workers as workers entitled to rights, dignity, fair conditions, and protection. It affirms a simple but powerful principle: all work has value, and every worker deserves equal protection—without exception.

Plenary Meeting of the Legislative Body of the Indonesian House of Representatives for First Level Decision Making regarding the Draft Law on the Protection of Domestic Workers (RUU PPRT), April 20, 2026.

As important as this achievement is, the real work begins now. Strong implementation, effective oversight, access to social security, and the protection of freedom of association will be critical to ensure these rights are realised in practice—not just on paper.

Solidarity with KSBSI and all those who made this possible. This victory is a step forward—and a reminder that the fight for justice continues.
